It’s a new month and here’s a new list. Give thanks for state, local and national parks near you by helping to make them better. This is a partial list of park volunteer opportunities in California. If your favorite park isn’t listed, check the park site for volunteer info.

Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (San Francisco) Plant native plants in Yosemite Slew

Friday, Aug. 3

Lost Park (Chico) Remove ivy, litter and weeds from this popular downtown park.

Friday, Aug. 3-Sunday, Aug. 5

Golden Gate Park (San Francisco) This is one of those mega cool volunteer opportunities that’s a mini-vacation at the same time. Camp at Golden Gate Park for a volunteer weekend building new trails; meals, music and more are provided. How cool is that?

Saturday, Aug. 4

San Bruno Mountain State and County Park (San Bruno) Eradicate invasive plants on the mountain.

Friday, Aug. 10

Lost Park (Chico) Remove ivy, litter and weeds from this popular downtown park.

Saturday, Aug. 11

San Bruno Mountain State and County Park (San Bruno) Work with other volunteers dedicated to restoring the bog on the Mountain.

Point Reyes National Seashore Construct and maintain traditional Coast Miwok structures and cultural exhibit landscaping and split firewood.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

Bidwell Park (Chico) Remove phytolacca americana, ie. pokeweed.

Thursday, Aug. 16

Point Reyes National Seashore Remove plants to maintain and enhance large-scale restoration projects.

Saturday, Aug. 18

San Bruno Mountain State and County Park (San Bruno) Eradicate invasive plants on the mountain.

Saturday, Aug. 25

Redwood Bowl, Roberts Regional Park (Oakland) Participate in the Ivan Dickson Trail Day at this East Bay Regional Park.
