Name That Photo: Stone staircase

Our next challenge photo is from a highly visited national park in California. We’ll be giving points for both the park name and where in the park you’ll find it, so if you think you know either or both, let us know. Click here to view the photo at full size.

Email your best guesses to photo@hikerly.com by Tuesday, August 7. I’ll post a few more hints between now and then if you aren’t sure.

The first hint: It’s within a popular national park in California.

Second hint (7/28): The stairs lead to a waterfall.

Third hint (8/1): Part of the John Muir Trail goes through this park.

The prize: Hikerly fame. I’ll be keeping a very unscientific leaderboard with points awarded for accuracy, sense of humor and anything else I think deserves credit, and when we’re all done, the person who has the most points will be honored on hikerly.com and get my personal adoration. What more could you want? Here’s the latest leaderboard.

The answer (August 8, 2012) These rather treacherous stairs lead to a lookout at the top of Upper Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park. The trail to the upper falls is one of the park’s oldest trails, built between 1873 and 1877. Yosemite Falls is North America’s highest measured waterfall at 2,425 feet above Yosemite. It’s also the sixth highest waterfall in the world.

This week’s winner is Randy who got both the park and trail correct. Partial credit to David J. who guessed the park correctly.
